Dr. Selene La Marca joined the School of Nursing faculty in August 2020 after practicing as a full-time nurse practitioner in a local emergency department. During four of those six years, she served in a leadership role as the Lead Advanced Practice Clinician for the emergency group. She continues to work as nurse practitioner on a as needed basis in the ED.  Dr. La Marca is dual board certified as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (2013) and Family Nurse Practitioner (2017).  In August of 2019, she completed her DNP from Vanderbilt University. Her DNP project was a quality improvement initiative analyzing the impact on patient care through a nurse initiated,  triage-based sepsis screening tool in the emergency department. Dr. La Marca has always been passionate about providing high-quality, patient-centered care. Her clinical experience is/has been primarily in the following critical care areas: ICU, ED, and flight nursing. She loves her interactions with her patients/families in addition to knowing she has the ability to make a difference for those in her community. Additionally, she feels that education is a one of the most powerful tools that one can utilize to make change(s) in the world. This belief has served as her motivation as she transitions to her new role as an educator. She hopes her interactions with students empower them to achieve their nursing goals and a make difference in the  nursing profession and in patient care.
