$2.5 Million Fundraising Campaign

To Support the NMSU Nurse Anesthesiology Program

The NMSU School of Nursing is developing a new DNP degree concentration in Nurse Anesthesiology with a focus on rural health and health disparities. Graduates will be qualified to take the national certification exam administered by the National Boards of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists to become certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). CRNAs complete a three-year doctoral program with rigorous didactic courses and over 2000 hours of supervised clinical training. New Mexico’s hospitals have a critical need for anesthesia providers throughout the state due to nation-wide shortages and difficulty recruiting providers, especially to rural healthcare centers.

The School of Nursing is launching a $2.5 million fundraising campaign to develop and launch the Nurse Anesthesiology program at NMSU.

  • $1.25 million will be used to hire a team of experienced CRNA educational consultants and cover the costs associated with initial program accreditation, faculty and staff, as well as recruitment and marketing, consultant travel, educational resources and institutional memberships. After the third cohort of students is admitted, the program will be self-sustaining.
  • $1.25 million is needed to develop an OR suite in the School of Nursing Skills and Simulation Center and purchase specialized equipment for nurse anesthetist training. Naming opportunities are available for donations to the training facility.

The NMSU School of Nursing is excited to develop and launch this program that will educate anesthesia providers who understand and are committed to addressing the healthcare needs of the state and region, and meet a critical need in New Mexico and Western Texas’ healthcare workforce.

The NMSU Nurse Anesthesiology program has recieved accreditation by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), 10275 W. Higgins Rd., Suite 906, Rosemont, IL  60018-5603; (847) 655-1160,  https://www.coacrna.org/.
