LSummersSpecial Interest and Research: Dr. Summer’s research interests include adolescent disclosure of health concerns to health care providers, stress reduction, health benefit of journaling, mobile technology, keys to nursing student success, concept-based learning curriculum, evidence based practice/practice based evidence, patient/provider communication and the use of Telehealth technology to increase access to care for adolescents in urban and rural settings.

Professional Experience: Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner Dr. Summers uses her combined skills as a nurse therapist and a family nurse practitioner to promote a holistic view of patient care. Her interest in providing comprehensive health care for adolescents has led to the procurement of funding and the development of two programs, student health care center at local high schools and two rural high schools. She is the owner of a Nurse Managed Urgent Care in Las Cruces.
