Dr. Philicia King is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. With more than 30 years of nursing experience and over six years in advanced practice, Dr. King brings deep clinical expertise and a passion for preparing the next generation of nurse practitioners.

Dr. King teaches across the Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner tracks. She is committed to student-centered learning, clinical rigor, and meaningful mentorship, helping students develop strong diagnostic reasoning, evidence-based practice skills, and compassionate, culturally responsive care. She is a champion of integrated primary and mental-behavioral healthcare.

In addition to her academic role, Dr. King maintains active clinical practice in both primary care and psychiatric settings. She provides telepsychiatry and integrated behavioral health services through Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural clinics across New Mexico, serving pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Her work focuses on expanding access to care in medically underserved and rural communities, including areas impacted by substance use disorders and complex mental health needs.

Dr. King earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and post-master’s certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from New Mexico State University. Her professional service includes membership in the New Mexico Board of Nursing Advanced Practice Advisory Committee and national nursing organizations.
