Shannon Chavez

Dr. Shannon N. Chavez, DNP, FNP-BC, is an Assistant Professor at the New Mexico State University School of Nursing. Dr. Chavez earned both her Doctorate of Nursing Practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from NMSU. Dr. Chavez is dedicated to fostering a student-centered learning environment that emphasizes evidence-based practice and compassionate patient centered care. Her teaching philosophy centers on empowering students to become lifelong learners and leaders in the nursing profession. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing each person's unique circumstances and tailoring care to meet their specific physical, emotional, cultural, and educational needs while showing each individual compassion, dignity, and respect. She integrates innovative teaching strategies and simulation-based learning to prepare students for the complexities of modern healthcare. Throughout her 22 years of experience she has remained committed to educating patients, their families, and the broader community about healthy lifestyle choices. She believes that thoughtful education and individualized, evidence-based care empower people to make informed decisions and achieve better health outcomes. Dr. Chavez has received awards for excellence in service, including the nationally recognized, Daisy Award in 2013 and the Physician's Choice Award in 2014. Dr. Chavez is honored to have been selected to join the nursing faculty at NMSU and looks forward to helping students become well-rounded and respected members of the medical community.
