Sharon Flaherty brings a diverse clinical background and a passion for experiential learning to nursing education. She began her nursing career in 1986 as an active-duty Army nurse and has practiced in a variety of clinical and geographic settings. Her experience includes intensive care nursing, facilitating clinical trials with a vascular research team, and caring for patients in inpatient rehabilitation. 

Since transitioning to nursing education in 2018, Sharon has been committed to “bringing the patient into the lab and classroom” through meaningful, practice-based learning. As Faculty Simulation Co-Coordinator for the BSN program at NMSU, she designs and facilitates simulation experiences that connect classroom learning with clinical practice and support students in developing clinical judgment, critical thinking, and confidence.
