Sharon Flaherty has worked as an RN in many different clinical and geographical settings. She started her career as an active duty Army nurse in 1986. Her clinical experience includes working as a staff ICU RN in various private and teaching hospitals, facilitating clinical trials with a team of vascular researchers, and most recently working in-patient rehabilitation. She transitioned to nursing education in 2018 and is challenged every day to “bring the patient into the classroom” to optimize the application of knowledge and skills for her students. She has played an active role in the Simulation program at NMSU as lab manager and is currently part of the simulation team as faculty and facilitator for the new Standardized Patient program.
