Dr. Borges has worked as a nurse for more than 30 years in a wide variety of settings. She has specific training as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and obtained her PhD from University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2004 with her dissertation research implementing an intervention to improve self-care behaviors in patients with diabetes. She has focused her research efforts using Community Based Participatory Research methods and partners with community-based health centers to improve health outcomes. In her current role she oversees a Nursing Leadership and Administration MSN program, a Population Health Leadership DNP program and a FNP and PMHNP program. Dr. Borges also continues her work to establish intentional Academic Practice Partnerships with health care agencies that have a shared mission and values with NMSU and provide students the opportunity to learn to solve real world problems.
