Crisis Resources

If you are a NMSU student experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 988 to speak with a crisis counselor. Out of the Darkness Walk

Out of the Darkness Walk was a successful event held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Corbett Center Outdoor Stage, NMSU, Las Cruces, NM, to raise awareness and prevent suicide. We are planning many more impactful events this year, so stay tuned for updates!

Mental Health Workshops

Available exclusively for NMSU students at no additional cost, our skill-building workshops are a popular choice for students eager to expand their knowledge and enhance their coping skills in various life areas.

Whether your goal is to overcome personal obstacles, improve your relationships, foster connections with others, enhance your sleep quality, or develop strategies to manage stress, anxiety, or depression, we offer a supportive space tailored to your needs.

Multicultural Resources at NMSU

Multicultural Counseling Services – Tailored to students from historically underrepresented groups, these services aim to dismantle barriers to accessing mental health resources. Our offerings include Multicultural Counseling Drop-In Hours, Identity-Based Group Counseling, Peer Support Identity Groups, and detailed information on our Multicultural Counseling Team and Student Office Liaisons. LGBTQ+ Inclusive Care – At NMSU, the LGBTQ+ Inclusive Care Team is dedicated to offering empathetic, suicide prevention resources, comprehensive care to transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender-questioning students. Our multidisciplinary team ensures a supportive, affirming environment for all students, promoting their well-being and mental health.

One-on-One Services

Mental Health Services – This includes crisis services, therapy groups, skill-building workshops, and brief individual therapy sessions. If you are considering meeting with a counselor, your first step is to visit Counseling Services located on the 1st floor of the Student Health and Wellness Center during our drop-in hours. Mondays to Fridays: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Local Community Resources – Utilize your health insurance benefits for individual therapy within the community. Insurance carriers often provide assistance in finding local providers compatible with your insurance plan. Also check the link for further details regarding the local community resources.

Substance Use Support

Substance Use Support – For students concerned about their use of substances, including alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs, NMSU offers support through individual appointments and workshops. Offers individual appointments, workshops, and additional resources tailored to students' needs. For more information, students are encouraged to contact the Counseling Center or visit the Substance Use Support Services webpage at NMSU.

Education and Self-Care

Outreach Presentations: NMSU offers a range of presentations covering stress management, mindfulness, sexual health, sleep, and substance use, among other topics. These sessions are facilitated by Health Education staff, peer education teams, or other experts. Interested parties can view session descriptions and submit requests online.

Recovery Community: A student-run group providing a supportive environment for individuals in recovery from substance use of drugs, eating disorders, and other mental health challenges. This community fosters an inclusive atmosphere for students at all stages of their recovery journey.

Financial Wellness Education: To assist students in managing their finances effectively, NMSU provides online modules covering essential financial topics, including student loans, credit cards, budgeting, and more.
